From Infinite Possibilities: A Haiku Calendar

From Infinite Possibilities: A Haiku Calendar

In open water
Mallard ducks paddle and swirl
mocking winter ice.

Dawn sun on pine poles
illuminates frost on bark
bright heartwood wakens.

Snow patterns in sage
a veil of lace on the face
of south fork ridges.

With a noisy rush
the fire finds a pitch pocket
and consumes itself.

Large sphere of orange light
engulfs the far horizon
unquenchable fire.

Cream cheese and walnuts
the sin of forbidden cake
I lick the beaters.

Pinto beans and ham
biscuits baked with buttermilk
the dun colt won’t lead.
